dc.description.abstract | Punjab hasthe most fertile land for agriculture activities in India and ideal for grown wheat, rice, sugar cane, fruits and vegetables. Punjab is, also called the "Granary of India" or "India's bread-basket."It produces 4% of India's wheat and 15% of India's rice. Thus the state is putting great contribution in the development of the country as well as to fill the food basket. But a common practice repeated by majority of the farmers is burning of residue came out from the crops. This practice of residue burning has become one of the major reason of air pollution particularly during harvesting season and has major direct and indirect on the life of living beings, biodiversity and environment in the country. The same time it adversely affects the air quality, leads to nutrient loss, degrade soil properties and cause waste of residue that has now considered tremendous resource worldwide. | en_US |
